Cleaning and Maintenance of Sex Toys
A well-maintained toy can last for years and keeps your intimate health protected. Learn how to properly clean and store each type of material.
Why is it so important?
Prevents infections
Bacteria and fungi can build up and cause infections if not cleaned properly.
Extends lifespan
Proper maintenance protects the materials and motor of your toys.
Maintains texture
Some materials degrade if not cared for, becoming sticky or rough.
Cleaning by Material
Silicone
- • Wash with warm water and mild soap
- • If non-motorised: can be boiled for 3 minutes or put in the dishwasher (top rack)
- • If motorised: only clean the surface, don't submerge
- • Dry completely before storing
Stainless Steel and Glass
- • Can be boiled, put in dishwasher, or cleaned with 10% bleach solution
- • Non-porous: very easy to completely sterilise
- • Check for cracks in glass before each use
ABS Plastic
- • Warm water and mild soap
- • Do not boil or put in dishwasher
- • Dry well and store in a clean place
Porous Materials (PVC, rubber, "jelly")
- • Cannot be fully sterilised due to their porous nature
- • Clean with warm water and soap, but consider using a condom
- • Replace them more frequently
Proper Storage
Some materials react with each other. Use individual bags or boxes.
Avoid direct sunlight and moisture.
If not using for a while, remove batteries to prevent corrosion.
Most toys come with a storage bag - use it.
